Sycamore Cottage (2003)
for flute & piano
Sycamore Cottage is a white farmhouse in the east of England, where I’ve spent a good deal of time. It is situated on an isolated row of homes in the middle of a field by an old church common. The piece reflects both the superficial elements (wind, landscape) and the deeper nature of isolation and the fantasies in which one may indulge in private.
This piece was commissioned by Jeffrey Khaner and first performed by him with pianist Hugh Sung on April 8th, 2003 in Field Concert Hall, Philadelphia PA.
